Borregaard is an international company with strong global positions in wood-based chemicals and other selected niches of organic chemicals. The company develops and supplies Specialty Chemicals, Fine Chemicals and Ingredients for a wide range of applications. Borregaard has 20 production plants in 12 countries and sales offices in Europe, America, Asia and Africa. Borregaard has 1,400 employees and expects sales to total NOK 4,7 billion （USD 800 million） in 2009.


Using wood as a raw material
Borregaard’s unique competence in the field of woodbased chemicals is the basis for the company’s strategy of specialisation and concentration in global niche markets. Borregaard’s Specialty Chemicals businesses （Borregaard ChemCell and Borregaard LignoTech） utilise the various components of wood to produce high value added products such as speciality cellulose, lignin-based binding and dispersing agents, yeast and yeast extracts, and ethanol. Wood is also the basis for Borregaard’s production of the aroma chemical vanillin （Fine Chemicals）.

Borregaard is the only supplier who offers you a total range of Vanillin products. Our omega-3 oils are used in Functional Foods, Dietary Supplements, Pet Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition. Borregaard produces speciality yeast products based on wood, manufactured in a continuous fermentation process.

Borregaard Energy's operations include the production and supply of power, and trading on the Nordic power exchange.

Borregaard part of Orkla's speciality materials division
Borregaard was established in 1889 with the construction of a cellulose and paper mill in Sarpsborg, south-eastern Norway. The company soon began to manufacture chemicals and to use timber as the raw material for a variety of chemical products. Today Borregaard is part of Specialty Materials of the Orkla Group.
